MANAGEMENT SAMENVATTING MANAGEMENT SUMMARY Dit rapport beschrijft onze visie op de toekomstige voedselvoorziening. Wij zijn Meststoffen Nederland, de vereniging voor de Nederlandse meststoffensector en vertegenwoordigen producenten, importeurs en distributeurs van minerale meststoffen. Meststoffen Nederland staat voor het efficiënt en verantwoord gebruik van nutriënten in een duurzame en concurrerende landbouw. De wereldwijde voedselvoorziening staat voor grote uitdagingen vanwege de snelle bevolkingsgroei en de toenemende vraag naar veilig en kwalitatief hoogstaand voedsel. De totale landbouwketen, van boer tot retailer, zal in toenemende mate op een duurzamere wijze moeten gaan opereren om de impact op klimaat en milieu te minimaliseren. Dit vereist een nieuwe visie op de voedselvoorziening en de rol van (minerale) meststoffen. Meststoffen Nederland zet in op een meer circulaire benadering van de voedselvoorziening, met een hoge maar verantwoorde productiviteit per hectare, waardoor extra beslag op landgebruik voor landbouw beperkt blijft. Zo blijft er meer ruimte voor ongerepte natuur en minimaliseren we de impact van voedselproductie op klimaat en milieu. Een gezonde bodem vormt de basis van een duurzame en circulaire landbouw. Meststoffen Nederland wil bijdragen aan de omslag naar een meer duurzame en circulaire voedselvoorziening door te investeren in: • Het adviseren over een gezonde bodem en de juiste toepassing van alle meststoffen (onbewerkt en bewerkt) • De ontwikkeling van minerale meststoffen met specifieke en variabele samenstelling om zo, in combinatie met organische bemesting, bij te dragen aan de verdere ontwikkeling en implementatie van precisielandbouw technieken • Verdere verduurzaming van de productie van stikstof-, fosfaat- en andere meststoffen • Gezamenlijke kennisontwikkeling gericht op: » Productie met alternatieve (circulaire) grondstoffen » Effectieve toepassing van meststoffen » Schaalgrootte van het voedselproductiesysteem in relatie tot kringlooplandbouw Met deze inzet wil Meststoffen Nederland u inspireren om samen met ons ‘schouder aan schouder‘ te werken aan een herijking van het gebruik van nutriënten binnen een meer circulair landbouwsysteem met minder impact op klimaat en milieu. This document outlines our vision on food production of the future. We are Meststoffen Nederland, the Dutch fertilizer association, representing both manufacturers, importers and distributors of mineral fertilizers. Meststoffen Nederland supports the efficient and responsible use of nutrients in a sustainable and competitive agriculture. Global food production faces major challenges, given the rapid population growth and increasing demand for safe and good quality food. The total production chain, from farmers up to retail, needs to operate more sustainably in order to minimize its impact on climate and the environment. This requires a new vision on the food production system and the role of (mineral) fertilizers. Meststoffen Nederland anticipates a change towards a more circular food production, with a high productivity per acre and thus limiting the extra amount of land use for agriculture. More nature can remain intact and the impact of food production on the climate and environment will be limited. Soil health is the pivot for sustainable agriculture. Meststoffen Nederland intends to contribute to a sustainable and more circular food production by investing in: • Advice to farmers on soil health and a balanced use of organic and mineral fertilizers • The development of new fertilizer concepts and implementation of precision agriculture techniques • An increasingly sustainable production of nitrogen, phosphate and other fertilizers • Combined research agenda on: » The use of alternative, circular feedstocks » More effective use of fertilizers » Optimal scale of operation for (more) circular approach of the agriculture system By doing this, Meststoffen Nederland wants to inspire you to collaborate in a joint effort to design a more circular food production system, with less impact on the climate and on the environment.
