MUSEUMS IN ETTEN-LEUR REGIONAL MUSEUM ETTEN+LEUR Located in the photogenic St. Paulushofje (from 1681). Central is a collection of utensils from the region from the past 150 years. Extraordinary is a peasant room from the time of Vincent Van Gogh and a room reminiscent of the fi rst fl ight of a motorized airplane in the Netherlands. Yes, that happened in Etten-Leur, on 27 June 1909. The museum also houses part of the collection of the former Huysmuseum. It offers a glimpse into the history of psychiatry (in Etten-Leur). Open Tue-Fri 1-5 PM Markt 53-61. www.streekmuseumettenleur.nl DUTCH PRINTING MUSEUM The entire history of the art of printing from 1445 onwards can be seen in this special museum. Old printing presses, printing type and the various ways of binding books are on display. All the printing presses work in the large printing room and it is possible to make your own prints. Open Wed-Sat and every 1st and third Sun. of the month from 1.30 -5 PM. Leeuwerik 8, www.nederlandsdrukkerijmuseum.eu VAN GOGH CHURCH Right in the centre of Etten-Leur, the former Dutch Reformed church offers a fascinating view of an important period in the life of Vincent van Gogh, EttenLeur’s most famous former resident. The Van Gogh family lived in Etten for no less than 7 years. It was here in 1881 that Vincent decided to become an artist. This was his very fi rst studio. The church tells the story of how it all began. Visit includes a beautiful fi lm and walking route booklet. Open Wed-Sat and every third Sunday of the month from 1.30-5 PM. Ask for the Etten-Leur Museum Pass at the Tourist Information Point on Markt 4: three museums and coffee with apple pie for only 10 euros! 2 STEAM MACHINES THE VAN OSCH MUSEUM In this private museum you can see a great collection of old (overhauled) steam engines, steam train tower, ship engines. THE NATURE MUSEUM IVN Vogel en Natuurbescherming Etten-Leur (Bird and Nature protection) organises interesting and educational activities all year round, from workshops to theme nights, from walks to other ‘do things’. In his life Wim Jacobs collected a lot of materials from old crafts and peasant life in the early 1900s, including clogs (wooden shoes).
