INTRODUCTION Covet Fashion is a Crowdstar game that was released back in 2013. The goal of the game is to style dolls according to a challenge. You get to dress them in beautiful clothes that are based off real life brands. A while ago we started a facebook group, Covet Hints, Tips & Tricks and many sister groups after that. When we all started playing the game, there was a lot to learn. In this magazine we're trying to create a guide with information that we missed when we started playing. We hope you like it, Covet Hints, Tips & Tricks

CHALLENGE TYPES There are 4 types of limited time challenges Daily, 100, 200 and Flashbacks. The prizes for each type has different values depending on how expensive the requirements are to complete the challenge. The Daily has the lowest value prizes between $150 to $250. There are no requirements and you get $500 to enter the challenge. The 100s have the second least expensive prizes about $250 to 450. There are usually 1-2 required items and you get $100 to enter the challenge. The 200s are the second most expensive prizes of about $450 to $800. They are often quite expensive to complete and have 35 required items. You get $200 to enter the challenge. Flashbacks are the most expensive to enter and use all out of season items which cost diamonds. If you don't own any of the required items it will cost on average 1500 diamonds. There are usually between 4-6 required items. You get $200 to enter the challenge. You can buy a Fashion Pack for real money, to buy 3 of the required items. The flashback prizes are the most expensive of the bunch and make them very worthwile. They average around $1500 but can be around anything from $900 to $3000. Please note this is just the value of the 4 star prizes. If you include the 5 star prizes too it can often double the value. Challenges are released at the same time each day. It will depend on your time zone when they are. Every Friday there is 1 extra bonus challenge. SEASON/UNWORN If you have styled some challenges already, you have probably noticed Season- and Unworn Bars. The season bar fills up when you wear only in season items. It goes up to a maximum of 0.30 points which are added to your base score. If you wear any out of season items the bar can only ever be 0.29 max and it is impossible to get a Top Look" The Unworn bar fills up when you wear items that have never been worn before. The bar goes up to a maximum of 0.50 points which are added to your base score. This bar has to be maxed in order to get a Top Look. It takes items with a combined value of $1400 to fill the Unworn bar to the max. You can also fill this bar up by borrowing. Borrow an item above 280cc to get the maximum of 0.10 unworn points. 8

BOOSTING In order to get the best possible score, you always want to make sure your unworn and season bar are filled up as much as possible. IF you use OOS (Out of season) items, the best way to get back to 0.29 is to use very expensive in-season jewlery. Your unworn is a bit different. If you could not fill out the bar to 0.50, when you press enter, Covet gives you the option to 'boost' your look. They show you multiple items you own, if you click one of them, you take the unworn from that item and boost your bar with the full 0.50 points. You do however not wear the item. You can just use it without adding it on to your look. Another great way to boost your unworn is by hiding items. If you have a spare unworn swimsuit.. hide it! A pair of socks, jewlery, shoes, anything works! You can also layer under jackets. Use a shirt and a vest! 9

GENERAL STYLING ADVICE Skintone All skintones are beautiful On cultural challenges in particular, try your best to use the most appropriate skintone for the challenge. Hair & Makeup Make sure the makeup fits to the rest of your look. If you're styling a pink ballgown look, we would suggest you go with a pink or neutral pallet rather than say a dark eye and red lip. Consider the eyebrow shape and colour and whether it looks good with the hair colour chosen. Colorful/rainbow type hair works best for fantasy challenges or if the cover photo shows coloured hair. Pay attention to the background of the challenge and select hair colours that don't blend into the background too much. Another thing to consider is choosing a hair colour that complements both the skin tone and the colours of the outfit. If the challenge requires a hat, try to find a hairstyle that works well with the glitch that occurs with certain hats and hairstyles. 10

GENERAL STYLING ADVICE Hair Accessories (HA) They are great and can really improve an overall look. With that said, they can also distract from a look if they're used in the wrong context. Do not feel like you need to use a hair accessory for every challenge. If you don't have the trending hair accessory, use something similar in style. Just remember the suggestion above; a hair accessory isn't always needed. There are also many hats that can be used as an alternative to the trending hair accessory and several of them can score quite well like the white hats with veils for brides or some of the flower hats available. However, sometimes it's best to leave it all together as many of them do not score as well. Props Props are great, but try to keep in mind the challenge description when you're utilizing props. For example: if the challenge calls for a woman taking surf lessons, she wouldn't have wings and a bouquet. Also, it is highly recommended that you don't use bouquets in both hands. Ever. 11

GENERAL STYLING ADVICE Props If you are unsure about using props in your look, check each prop site to see if it's been featured by Covet. If there's a suggestion, usually it's a good idea to add a prop to that site or another one that may be similar to what's featured. The featured props are usually trending. You can add more props if you want, just make sure it will fit the description of the challenge and compliments your look. If you find that a prop distracts from your overall look, it might be better not to add it. Some of the flower bouquets look best in the model's right hand. Too much of the stem of the bouquet shows when used in the left hand. The cascading bouquets and single flowers look good in both hands. Flowers in the model's left hand can be used to cover up requirements like bracelets, rings and clutches that do not suit the look very much. *The model's left hand is the one shown on the right on our screen 12

GENERAL STYLING ADVICE Accessories Matching the colour of your chosen accessories like belts and bags with your shoes is also a good idea Belts are VERY popular and a great way to improve your look. Bags should be used with care. You usually can't go wrong with a clutch especially if it's a formal or cocktail look. Totes are good for casual, everyday, business type looks. Backpacks are best if it's a schoolgirl or sporty look. It's best to avoid bags on fantasy looks unless it's a requirement. Voters tend to prefer looks that stand out. If a look is too plain it might be a good idea to add some accessories such as a belt, shawl, jewelry or clutch perhaps. Sometimes a simple prop can transform a look completely too. Miscellaneous Suggestions Following trends can help to improve your scores. The newest garments available in the shop that day are often what will be trending. It can also help to style according to description / cover photo. 13

GENERAL STYLING ADVICE Miscellaneous Suggestions It is still possible to score well without following trends but it is a good idea to stick with the same colour scheme / theme as shown in trends. You can get good scores when going out of season (OOS) and sticking to the same colour scheme / theme. If you choose an OOS item, use high priced in season jewelry to boost your season bar as much as possible. Also try borrowing the most expensive OOS item when possible as it doesn't affect your season bonus as much. Choose jewelry that complements the colours in the outfit. If you have a gold hair accessory it is a good idea to choose gold jewelry to match it for example. Voters seem to be obsessed with formal dresses so when in doubt go with a formal dress. Often formal dresses will win out even if the cover photo shows a cocktail dress. Don't forget that you can select "Tuck" while you're styling a model, and it will tuck the shirt in. Often times the shirt looks better tucked in and styled with a belt. 14

GENERAL STYLING ADVICE Modern In Modern everyone is given a set model with fixed skin tone and body type. There are 8 skin tones and 8 body types in Modern. It is not possible to change these. Everyone is given the same model to work with. Voting in Modern is completely separate to Classic. Only other modern players can vote on your look and they only go up against other modern looks too. In Modern the trends are often different from Classic. You have to consider the models body shape when choosing what garments to wear to make sure it looks good on the model. For the rectangular shape body type it's often a good idea add a jacket or shawl to give the body some shape. For the shorter models the head seems quite small and some hairstyles overwhelm the doll so this has to be taken into consideration too Some of the body types also do not have much of a neck so some garments with a high collar might look a bit odd on those. 15

VOTING/TICKETS After you have entered, you have to wait untill the deadline of the challenge and then your challenge goes into voting. You go in 1 big pool with all of the other people that entered the same challenge as you, in the same mode (classic or modern). All of the scores start with 3.5 stars. You can get a maximum of 5.00 and a minimum of 2.00. When voting you can choose 4 options. Vote for the left look, vote for the right look, equal (=) or skip. If you vote for the left look, that persons score goes up by a small percentage. The other look's score will go down by a small percentage. If you vote for the right look, you have the same idea but the other way around. If you press equal (=) or skip, this will not influence any of the scores. You will just get 2 new looks without the previous scores going up or down. 16 When you vote, you will see your tickets going up. There are 4 ways to get tickets. You can either vote, like stated before. You get some tickets as a daily reward every day. You can buy tickets with diamonds and you get tickets if other people borrow from you!

VOTING/TICKETS When people borrow from you, you get 2 tickets each time. You will find this in the 'Activity' tab. You also get tickets if people borrow from you for Jet Sets. If you have very few friends borrowing from you, it is nice to get a few extra tickets. If you have a big closet with loads of people borrowing from you, you might get enough tickets through the activity tab to enter all of your challenges! 17 You can get a maximum of 75 tickets, if you receive any more, they will be gone.

LEVELING To level up you have to increase your closet value by a certain amount. 50.000 cc from level 1-13 and 100.000 cc from level 14 onwards. There are many ways to increase your closet value; buy items in the shop such as dresses, shoes, jewelry etc. win prizes from completing challenges both 4 and 5 star prizes available. win rally prizes every month complete the weekly spree of 28 challenges. become a trendsetter each season to receive extra gifts for reaching milestones. buy fashion packs for flashbacks. buy end of season / start of season / end of year fashion packs with real money. Most people level up between 2 to 3 times per month but it's possible to level up more than that if you spend money on the game or have really great tapjoy offers. 18 A new level gets released every month. Usually the 2nd or 3rd monday on the month. If you are top level, you will automatically level up when a new level is released. You can check your current closet value and level in the 'profile' tab.

SPREE The spree prize is usually of high value and great for boosting your closet value and for boosting unworn or season bonus with when going OOS. On your challenges tab at the top you can see information about the weekly spree. Your goal is to complete 28 out of 43 challenges in a week to receive the prize. The Spree week starts on Sunday with the Daily until the next Sunday just before the Daily is released. Some people save up their challenges and complete them all on Sunday so they can get the Spree prize by Wednesday already. They then take a break and wait to complete challenges until Sunday apart from the Daily. We usually get jewlery. Every now and then you may receive a piece of clothing, like a jacket. The items are mostly between 3000 cc and 4000 cc . If you are very lucky, you may be able to win a Hair accesory or prop pack by completing the spree. This is however very rare. 19

MONTHLY SERIES Every month, a new series comes out. This is the best way to get free hair accessories and prop packs. It always starts the day after the new level is released. Usually the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday of the month. In a series, you have to complete a certain number of challenges in order to win prizes. These challenges are always within the same theme and will be marked with a 'Series' label. You usually have to complete between 6-9 challenges for regular series. Series are usually more expensve to enter than regular challenges. They contain both 100 and 200 challenges. We sometimes do get flashback only series but these do not happen very frequently. Usually 4 flashbacks in total have to be completed for those. To give you a headstart, Covet usually brings out some fashion packs so you can stack up on some of the required items of the series. 20 During season change months of February, May, August and November, the regular series is replaced by a Sprint to Season series consisting of Dual Season Challenges. These are usually no more expensive then regular challenges but you can use items from both the current and the upcoming seasons.

TAPJOY Tapjoy is a service offered by Covet, where your actions are rewarded with in-game diamonds. There are different types of offers available such as completing surveys, playing games (and reaching certain goals / levels), purchasing items in real life, signing up for subscriptions etc. You have to complete these through the Tapjoy offerwall to get your reward. It is important that any apps or links are opened straight from the tapjoy offerwall without any disruptions so the offer can be linked properly to Tapjoy otherwise you will not get your reward. Offers vary per device and country. Android devices have access to game and other app offers which iPhones do not due to new rules from Apple. There are ways around this for Apple users by using android emulators like Bluestacks. Tapjoy is the best way to gain diamonds without having to spend money. Note: some offers do require you to spend money both in game and when purchasing items or subscriptions. But the price to diamond ratio is better than buying diamonds straight from the shop. Usually, the harder the offer, the more diamonds you get from it. You have to reach your goal before the deadline, this can be anywhere from 24 hrs to 60 days! If you complete it outside this period, you will not receive your diamonds. 21

RALLIES Over here you will read everything you need to know about rallies. PRIZE BAGS WHAT IS A PRIZE BAG? A rally is a contest in which fashion house members enter a set number of challenges and attempt to achieve a combined score goal in order to win prizes. You can only rally if you are a member of a fashion house. A rally lasts for about 2.5 days, which means that a house can hold multiple rallies in a month. Each month there is a new rally prize board which shows Grand, Medium and Small prize bags that can be won. The rally prize board also keeps track of already won prizes. GRAND PRIZE BAG There are 4 grand prizes in total each month. You get the chance of winning that month's Hair Accessory for free, 2000 diamonds and 2 prize bundles usually worth around $1719,000. SMALL PRIZE BAG There are 26 small prize bags you can win each month. Small prizes are items for your closet worth around $200-450 usually dresses, tops, skirts, hats, bag etc., 2x $200 covet cash bundle, 2x 150 diamond cash bundle. MEDIUM PRIZE BAG There are 12 medium prize bags you can win each month. Medium prizes are items for your closet worth around $500-800 each mostly dresses, $400 covet cash bundle and 300 diamonds. 22

You have a chance of winning 42 prizes every month usually worth more than $50K in total but only if you “clear the board” and win all the rallies. That's an increase in closet value (CV) equivalent to half of a level every month (if you are level 14 or above) so it's totally worth it. The maximum number of challenges in a rally is 12. To win prizes you have to complete a set number of challenges depending on the type of rally: classic, fancy, or fierce. You have to reach a certain goal with all your combined scores in order to win. TYPES OF RALLIES There are 3 types of rallies, listed in increasing degree of difficulty; Classic, Fancy and Fierce. The combined score goal required is higher the harder the rally type. You also have to complete more challenges. The higher the difficulty level, the more rally board pieces you win and with that comes more prizes. Here is some information about the different types of rallies and their requirements. 23 FIERCE RALLY Fierce rallies require 11 out of 12 challenges to be won in order to win 35 pieces. This means 1 flashback has to be won in order to meet this requirement. As a minimum, houses would require you to complete all daily's + 100s + 3 out of 4 200s and 1 Flashback for about 50% of the participants (11 challenges per player in total). CLASSIC RALLY Classic rallies require that 9 out of 12 challenges be won to get 9 prize board pieces. This means you have to complete all Daily's and some 100s / 200s each rally (7 challenges for each player, in total). 80% participation for 100s is needed to bring the average required score goal under 4. And 50% participation for 200s. FANCY RALLY Fancy rallies require that 10 out of 12 challenges to be won to get 18 pieces. Usually houses would require that you complete all Daily’s + all 100s + min. 2 out of the 200s (8 challenges per player).

WINNING RALLIES To win a rally, all participating members must complete the minimum required number of challenges as set out by their fashion house. Members must reach the combined score goal required for each challenge; since scores are combined, a challenge can be won even if some players score high and others score low. It's a team effort and even if 1 member doesn't do their part the whole rally can be at risk. If any rally participants miss a challenge they may be removed from the house so that the house does not lose the rally and prizes that come with it. A member may be allowed back in after the missed challenge is back from voting. Each house has their own rules about this. TOGGLING ON/OFF In order to participate in a rally you have to make sure the rally participation button is toggled on. Most houses require you to toggle off if you are unable to meet the minimum rally requirements. It's possible to still win all prizes if you only toggle on for every other rally. If you toggle off for more than 1 rally in a row you will lose out on prizes. Please make sure to check with your house if it's ok to only toggle on every other rally before doing this. All houses are different and have different rules for this. You do not need to toggle on for the first rally of the month if you were toggled for the very last one of the previous month. As long as you toggle on for every other rally you will get all prizes regardless of when the rallies are. 24 Toggle on and off every other rally and still receive all the prizes!

SEASONS Dual season challenges usually start Sunday before the change of season. Covet works with seasons, every season (change) a lot happens. What can you expect when season changes? The seasons changes every 3 months. In February, May, August and November. It's always on a Wednesday and every season change is 13 weeks after the next. Covet sometimes changes the scedule forward or back by 1 week. At the last rally month before the season changes, you will be able to get rally prizes that are for the next season. On the Saturday before the season change the challenges will have prizes from the new season too. Starting with the 1st 200 released after the Daily. The dual season challenges usually start the next day (Sunday) and is part of the Sprint to Season series. Here you can win a prop pack for entering all challenges in the series. These are challenges where you can use items from both the current season and the upcoming season (your prizes from the rally board). It's best to keep your new season prizes and only use them after the season has changed. During season change months there are no regular series only the Sprint to Season series consisting of mostly dual season challenges that are usually no more expensive to enter than regular challenges. The extra Hair Accessory for those months can be won as a spree prize usually a week or two before the season changes. Wednesday after the dual challenges start, the season will change as soon as the Daily is out. Everyone gets $1200 to help them towards their new closet. If you were a trendsetter in the previous seasons you get an additional bonus depending on how many times in a row you were trendsetter. The first challenge of the season, the Daily is always locked to the new season. You will see both the previous and new season items in the shop both for covet cash. 25

On the day of season change different fashion packs will be available to purchase with real money. These are a great way to boost your closet value and to get a head start on the new season if you spend real money on the game, that is. We usually do a break down of the fashion packs so you can decide if it's worth it for you and which one is best to get. So stay tuned on the group and be sure to read those before buying. A week or two after the season change, the end of season fashion packs become available for purchase. These include some of the favourite items from the previous season. These are a great way to boost your closet value if you spend real money on the game. But the items are all out of season and perhaps not as useful anymore apart from coming up in future flashbacks potentially. Around the same time that the end of season pack is out the items in the store from the previous season will change to cost diamonds instead of covet cash. 26 Season change is always quite expensive in the beginning as you start over with an almost empty in season closet. A good tip is to go out of season as much as possible in the beginning to help you save until you build your new in season closet. Just remember to boost the season bar with expensive jewelry you win from sprees or rallies so your season bonus isn't affected too much. If you have plenty of unworn items at the end of the season, you could use these to do jet sets! This way you get some use out of your items. Try to save some for future flashbacks as well!

BLL / TL Or Best look in level / Top Look. The biggest achievement in Covet Fashion. Top Looks and BLL’s are very coveted by players as your look gets featured on the runway and you win a diamond prize! It means voters loved your look and you received a lot of votes. Although there is also a lot of luck involved as it all depends on who you are paired with in voting. In order to get a BLL, you need to get the best look in your level, except for people who got a top look. If for example someone else in your level got a Top Look, you can still make a BLL if you were the best one apart from that. A 5.79 is ALWAYS a guaranteed BLL. If you get a BLL your look gets on the runway and you receive 500 diamonds! There can be more than 1 BLL if several people get the highest score that isn't a perfect 5.80. In order to get a Top Look your score needs to be perfect (5.80). You need to boost all of your bonuses and can't use OOS items. (Unless you use Covet Collection and pay for the Covet Collection Pass). If you get Top Look, your look gets on the runway and you receive 5000 diamonds! 27

MODERN The default mode is Classic and everyone starts out in this version. But there is another version available called Modern. You can easily switch to it from your Profile tab by selecting the Settings button. In Classic all the models are the same shape; tall and skinny, not really reflective of the general population. In Classic you can choose which skin tone you want to use which causes a lot of controversy at times because of the tendency of many choosing Olive skin and blonde hair. For each level you get 4-5 new Makeup (MU) to use and all are available regardless of the skin tone you use. Even though some MU just doesn't work on all the skintones. It's up to you to figure out what works and what doesn't. In Modern there are 8 different model types with different skin tones, facial features and make up available. The model type and body shape are locked and you cannot change the skin tone like you can in Classic. 28

MODERN SKINTONES Model 1 - the skin tone is somewhere between fair (ST1) and light olive (ST2) in Classic. The facial features look Asian and this model type is often used for North East Asian challenges (Chinese/Japanese) and the odd Vampire also. The MU is much better than what's available for Asian models in Classic. Eye colour is dark brown. Model 2 - the skin tone is closest to Tan (ST3) in Classic. This model type is often used for retro/historical challenges funnily enough. Eye colour is mostly blue. Model 3 - the skin tone is somewhere between Tan (ST3) and Olive (ST4) in Classic. Eye colour is mostly blue. Haven't noticed a particular pattern of what types of challenges this is used for. Model 4 - the skin tone is closest to Olive (ST4). Eye colour is mostly hazel. Haven't noticed a pattern for what types of challenges this model is used for. It's pretty varied anything to formal to apocalyptic. Model 5 - the skin tone is between Olive (ST4) and Medium Dark (ST5) and is often used for South East Asian challenges. Eye colour is brown. Model 6 - the skin tone is closest to Medium Dark (ST5) and is often used for Latina / Hispanic, AfricanAmerican, Egyptian and other African challenges. Eye colour is brown. Model 7 - the skin tone is somewhere between Medium Dark to Dark and is mostly used for Indian challenges especially Indian brides. Majority of the MU has green eyes and sometimes blue funnily enough. I would have expected to see a lot more brown eyes. Model 8 - the skin tone is closest to Dark (ST6) and is often used for African / American, Egyptian and other African challenges. Eye colour is dark brown. Please note these are just examples of when we've noticed each model type has been used. It's not an exclusive list by any means and most do get used for many varied types of challenges. We've just tried to notice patterns that's all. 29

MODERN BODYTYPES In Modern not only have you got 8 different Model Types available. There are also 8 different body shapes available unlike Classic where it's just the same for all looks. brown. In the pictures you can see the different body shapes which we've numbered. Below is a description of each body type. Body type 1 - short and pear shaped with fuller hips and thighs, defined waist with narrow shoulders and a smaller bust Body type 2 - tall with an hourglass figure with a defined waist. Shoulders and hips are of similar width. Body type 3 - average height with a round body shape also known as apple shape. Plus size model. Body type 4 - tall and pear shaped with fuller hips and thighs, defined waist with shoulders that are narrower than the hips. Body type 5 - average height and pear shaped just like 1 and 4. 30 Body type 6 - short and rectangle shape with a straight body line. Shoulders and hips are roughly the same measurements with not much definition in the waist. Body type 7 - taller slightly slimmer version of 6. Also rectangle shape with a straight body line, no hips and a small bust Body type 8 - slightly taller and slimmer version of 2. Probably the closest to the Classic models.

MODERN MAKEUP In Modern each model type only gets 2-3 new MUs per level unlike the 4-5 in Classic. However, as there are 8 different model types that means 16-24 new MUs to play with each level! Even though the names are the same across each Model type the MUs look completely different. Not all MU types are available for all 8 model types. Only a handful of the lower level ones are available on all 8 model types. In the pictures you can see a few of these in comparison with the Classic versions. The MU has been tailor-made to the facial features for each model type and skin tone so they are mostly all usable. Unlike classic where many MUs don't work on certain skin tones, especially on darker skin tones. There are a lot more MUs available across all the different model types so it takes longer to learn what looks good and what scores well. There aren't any hard and fast rules for this as there is in Classic. Just go with your instinct and choose what looks best, fits the theme and matches your outfit. The only downside is that some of the SFX MUs aren't available on certain model types. Covet has a habit of of choosing model types that are missing the relevant SFX Makeup for certain challenges. This is quite unfortunate but at least you know that everyone else playing Modern is in the same boat as you. 31

JET SETS At the beginning, Jet Sets are a great way to get some diamonds! You get 500 diamonds for every new destination. It does get more and more difficult after a while since your avarage needs to be higher and higher each time. Below is a table to see the needed average scores for all 22 destinations. As you can see it really gets more and more difficult with each step. Golfing holliday in Sydney to The Beauty of Singapore is the hardest step. You need an additional 36 points to reach that destination. Good luck! 32

You unlock destinations based on all of your previous scores. When entering normal challenges, you can only enter them once. With Jet Sets however, you can enter them as many times as you like to improve your scores. They are only in voting for 8 hours so you won't have to wait a long time for your scores to come back. Covet has been working on revamping all of the Jet Set destinations over the past year. They have just finished revamping all of them and 4 new ones have been added in the last 1,5 years. There are now a total of 22 destinations, and 66 challenges in total! 33

HAIR ACCESSORIES Hair accessories, an addiction. You get to win hair accessories in sprees, series and in the monthly rally board. If you have missed out on either one of those, the only way to get them is by buying them! A while ago, hair accessories were only available to the levels and hairstyles they were introduced with. After a glitch where you could put every hair accesory on every hairstyle, Covet decided to make them customisable and you are now able to add your hair accessories to selected hairstyles. On the next page we will show you which HAs we recommend to buy. Please note the lowest level of the HA. If your level is below this, you will not be able to use it. 34

PROPS Props have been added to the game not too long ago. Props are items you can add to your look, without influencing your season- or unworn score. Props can be added to the front, back, left hand and right hand of your model. There are multiple ways to get props! You can buy them, you can win them by completing a montly series, you can win them by completing the spree and you get some monthly props for free, which change every month. So far all prop packs have been available to win for free except for 1. We got to vote for our favourite monthly props from 2019. The top 6 items were add to a prop pack. The ‘2019 Fan Favourite Prop Pack’. Props become a big part of the game since being introduced. It can take your look to a whole new level. It might influence the appearence even more than Hair Accessories. 36

CLONING What is a clone? A clone is where 2 or more looks are exactly the same. Usually an experienced stylist will put together a look and others copy this in clone groups. There are many different clone groups some do open clones others exact clones or a combination of these. Exact clones An exact clone is as it sounds, everything is exactly the same from hair, MU, clothes, shoes to jewelry. They are identical copies in every way, shape and form. Although some clone groups allow for props or hair accessories to be omitted if these are not owned. Exact clones are all given the same score and they go into voting as separate looks. A while back Covet announced that clones go into voting as 1 look but this is not actually the case. Covet has since confirmed that they do in fact go into voting as separate looks and the above change was never implemented. All of the clones are given the same score as the highest scoring clone. The scores are adjusted once they come back from voting. So if you have 50 exact clones you basically have 50 chances to get a good score. The highest score is then given to all of the clones. But please note that Covet prevents 5 or more clones from getting top looks on all challenges apart from flashbacks. Although there have been a few glitches where a clone got a top look on a regular challenge but this is extremely rare. To increase the chance of getting a 5 you need to clone looks with as many participants as possible. In our experiment we found that around 40 participants was the magic number which seemed to guarantee a good score. If you omit the hair accessories used you will not get the same score. Same goes for some props too. You have the highest chance of getting a good score with exact clones without omitting any props or hair accessories. 37

Open clones These are identical in all the items used from clothes, shoes, jewelry to props. Only difference is the hair and make up. Every person cloning the look must choose a different hair and MU combination than all the previous entries. As open clones aren't exactly the same in every detail they do not get the same score and they are still able to get Top Look on all challenges. The scores will also all be different. The chance of getting a good score is much less than with exact clones but you do have the chance of getting a Top Look. Closed clones These are similar to open clones but where there may be certain items that you can choose yourself. So only part of the clone is identical. The rest you decide upon yourself. These are not exact clones so they do not get the same score as exact clones do. The chance of scoring well is also much lower. 38

Clone groups Groups where experienced stylists post a look for each challenge for others to copy. They can either be open or exact clones. Many clone groups are just for HCVs and some are very exclusive. Some groups are just for cloning in series in an attempt to get the highest scores and hopefully win some prizes. Although Covet changed the rules a while back, which means if Clones win they hardly get any diamonds anymore. The prize is now split between all the clones who get the highest score instead of everyone receiving the full amount. Usually there are many requirements that should be met when joining a clone group. You may have to switch off looks visible pre-scoring which can be an issue for many fashion houses. Although some will let you post a screenshot of your rally tab or My Looks to show you've completed all of your looks. If you are interested in joining a clone group please check with your fashion house first. Usually there are rules for how many clones you have to complete per week too. Usually a minimum of 3 per week, others may require more but this is different for all the groups. And no tweaking is allowed. This is where your look is almost the same as the clone just with a slight difference. Clone groups are not meant to be used as inspiration groups. Either you clone according to their requirements or you do something completely different. 39

Why do people clone? Because there is a high chance of getting a good score over 5. However it's no guarantee especially when it's an open clone as you choose your own hair and MU. It also saves time when you are too busy to complete all available challenges but you still want to keep progressing in the game and levelling up. A good strategy if you want to level up quicker is to clone flashbacks. They are extremely difficult to get good scores on as the competition is so stiff. Mostly HCVs with older closets enter flashbacks so your look is compared to many amazing looks. Getting a 5 on a flashback is a big achievement and with it comes a great prize of high value to boost your closet and you will therefore level up quicker. Cost of cloning Cloning can be expensive, since you most likely won't own many of the items used by the stylist. And they often use additional items than just what is required which gets really expensive especially on flashbacks. And again the 5s aren't guaranteed so you may have spent all that extra cash for nothing. If you clone regularly with the same clone group, you will find that it gets cheaper, as they usually tend to reuse the items throughout the season. 40
