SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS ORGANIC COTTON When growing organic cotton, no pesticides are used, only natural crop protection agents such as insects, and the soil is fertilised with natural waste to prevent pollution of agricultural land and water. By alternating cotton cultivation with crops such as grains and legumes (crop rotation), soil depletion is prevented. Santino clothing made from organic cotton is GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) or OCS (Organic Cotton Standard) certified. The GOTS label guarantees that at least 70% of the cotton is organically grown, without harmful pesticides, and that production is carried out in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner. The cultivation and production can therefore be traced back to the cotton plantation. Our products made with less than 70% organic cotton are certified according to the OCS. This certificate guarantees that the exact proportion of organic cotton in the product is monitored fairly and transparently – from the plantation to the end product. Because these items contain a lower percentage of organic cotton than the minimum 70% required for GOTS, we cannot offer them under the GOTS label. With OCS certification, we can still show that genuine organic cotton has been used and that this has been verified. BAMBOO Bamboo grows extremely quickly and requires little water and no fertiliser to grow. During growth, the bamboo plant absorbs a lot of greenhouse gases and also prevents erosion. Like cotton, hemp and linen, it is a renewable raw material and biodegradable. Bamboo fibres are extremely strong, giving clothing a long life. Fabric made from bamboo absorbs 60% more moisture than cotton, is antistatic, soft, breathable, durable, crease-resistant, retains its shape and filters harmful UV rays. Another unique property of bamboo is its natural antibacterial substance. A beautiful and sustainable material, ideal for sports or work! 10
