Ferry route An experience not to be missed! For those who want to explore and experience the beautiful surroundings of Grou, ‘De 8 van Grou’ offers plenty of opportunities. De 8 van Grou is a wonderful bike trail; one moment you are cycling through the varied watery landscape of the National Park De Alde Feanen and the next moment you are passing a picturesque village. You can then continue cycling through vast flowery meadows, enjoying the vibrant and diverse countryside. What makes this route so special, is that you will have to cross several waterways. Volunteer crews ferry you across the ditches and channels. The ferries (pontjes in Dutch) give an extra dimension to your ride; an experience not to be missed! De 8 van Grou has 12 ferry crossings and is also called ‘de Pontjesroute’. Route Guide “De 8 van Grou” De 8 van Grou has its own information brochure, with routes, operating times and the locations of the ferries. In this brochure you will find four different routes. All routes combine well wherever you begin. And they all start and finish in Grou. You can choose from distances ranging from 32 to 65 kilometres. Each route is indicated on a map showing the location of the ferries, as well as a general description and some interesting sights. The Route Guide De 8 van Grou is on sale at the Tourist Office and at several addresses on route. Sales addresses can be found on www.de8vangrou.nl. Trip through De Alde Feanen A trip through De Alde Feanen is one of the four beautiful 80 routes of De 8 van Grou. The route begins in Grou starting from the Hellingshaven. The ferry named Gastvrij Grou waits rigged and ready to bring you to the other side where you can embark on ferry De Burd which will transport you to the beautiful island with the same name as the ferry.
