Inundatiegebied Cruijslandse Kreken en Het Laag Dit inundatiegebied was voor de vijand een lastig te nemen barrière. Het is nu een prachtig gebied om te kanoën, vissen, fietsen of wandelen. This inundation area was invaluable for the defence. Nowadays it’s a perfect area to go canoeing, fishing, cycling or hiking. Vestingstad Steenbergen Ontstaan rond 1272. In 1626 bouwt prins Maurits de gebastioneerde zeshoek met natte gracht en buitenwerken. In 1827 wordt de vesting opgeheven, maar haar overblijfselen zijn nog redelijk zichtbaar. The town originates from around 1272. In1626, Prince Maurits constructed the hexagonal stronghold with bastions and a ‘wet’ canal. After 1827, the stronghold was no longer maintained, but the remains are still visible. Fort Henricus (1627) Dit fort heeft stad en het omliggende land beschermd tegen de vijand. Daarna is het in verval geraakt. Het oude fort is nu weer terug. Vanaf het fort heb je een prachtig uitzicht over het noordelijk deel van de West Brabantse Waterlinie. This fortress protected the city and its surrounding fields against the enemy. Afterwards, it fell into disrepair. The old fortress is back once again. The fortress provides a wonderful view of the northern part of the West Brabantse Waterlinie. Benedensas Het benedensas had vroeger de functie om water door te laten voor de inundatie. Nu noemen sommigen dit prachtige sluizencomplex het mooiste plekje van West-Brabant. Van hieruit bezoek je natuurgebied de Dintelse Gorzen en kan je vanaf het spraakmakende uitkijkpunt de Slikken van De Heen bekijken. The Benedensas (lower locks) used to be deployed to let water in for inundations. Now, some consider this exquisite lock system the loveliest place in West-Brabant. This is the starting point to visit the wetlands of Dintelse Gorzen and to observe the Slikken of De Heen from the renowned vantage point.
